Public Works Weekend Update- Nov. 3
Public Works Weekend Update - Friday, Nov. 3
Leaf Pickup
The first round of leaf pickup begins next week on Monday, Nov. 6. This year, we will start in Area 3, then move to Area 4, and so on. Signs will be posted approximately one week before being in your area stating, "Leaf pickup in this area next." Leaf pickup signs will be posted in Area 4 on Monday.
Please place loose leaves on your property at the curb in front of your house before your area is scheduled for the next pick-up to ensure they are not missed. If leaves are not out as the crews pass in front of your house, they will be picked up on the next rotation. A map of the pickup areas and a list of sign locations are posted on the Public Works page.
Loose leaves should be placed at the curb in a pile, separate from any brush and other yard waste. Brush and waste could damage the leaf machine and cause delays in pickup. All leaves must be away from utility poles, mailboxes, or other structures. Do not block drainage ditches or curbside drainage catch basins with leaves - this violates Stormwater Regulations.
For safety reasons, leaves must not hinder traffic or block travel lanes. This is extremely dangerous to motorists. If you live at an intersection, keep leaves away from the intersecting street. Wet or frozen leaves are slick and can make it difficult to stop.
Brush Pickup
Brush pickup is offered minimally during leaf season, which runs approximately November – February. You can dispose of brush at the Transfer Station at 714 Mississippi Ave.

SMSS Food Drive
The Signal Mountain Fire and Police Departments are hosting a Food Drive in support of the Signal Mountain Social Services Food Pantry. Donations can be dropped off at several Town facilities, including the Transfer Station (714 Mississippi Ave), during regular operating hours.
Suggested donation items are any canned items (fruit, vegetables, beans), pancake mix, instant potatoes, dry cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly and any other non-perishable items or hygiene-related items (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, conditioner, shave gel, etc.)
Items donated will be used primarily in Christmas baskets that the Food Pantry puts together for those in our area who are in need.
Broken Garbage Carts
If your garbage cart is damaged, please contact Public Works at 423-886-2177 (option #2) for repairs or replacement. Once Public Works has been notified, please leave your cart outside so we have access to your cart. It cannot be in a garage or fenced-in yard. It can take up to three working days for repairs and replacements.
